Planning and Planting

Our temperatures ranged from the mid-60s to negative 17 degrees this month. I finally completed bordering the front bed with rocks, where tomatoes, peppers, and some flowers will be planted for the first time this Spring. I am hoping the space will increase the harvest of the heat-loving plants which are not producing as much as I would like in the backyard. I planted some native seeds outside this month as an experiment, to determine if winter sowing works. Some of these plants (like columbine or dara) require a cold/wet stratification prior to planting. My hope is that being outside, even with the Colorado swing in temperatures, may grow hardier seedlings than those planted and babied under lights inside.
