The Chill in the Air
Each sunset comes a little sooner, and the weather toggles between summer heat and winter chill. The garden goes through the last throes of bloom, growth, and freeze. Some plants shut down and begin their slumber; others, confused by the prevalence of above average temperatures, bloom and send up more delicate shoots.
October 3rd
Seed collecting continues for dill, marigolds, Love Lies Bleeding, hollyhock, cosmos, calendula, and peppers.
October 10th
In the kitchen, I made another batch of curried patty pan squash soup. Last week I made Jalapeno poppers, and dried the Paprika and Aleppo. I sliced the rest of the jalapenos and placed them in a jar with white vinegar.
I pulled out the Aleppo, Jalapeno and Paprika peppers. I also collected seeds from the moss roses, asters, cosmos, and gomphrena.
The sunflowers and honeywort are blooming beautifully still, along with the Big Chief Red Flame celosia and Prince Zulu daisy.
ally arrived last week. I just hope they haven’t been in the box for too long.
